Sometimes Christian Eriksen’s agent Martin Schoots can seem quite stern, but that’s probably because half the time he talks about the player it’s because he’s having to deny false media stories.
In reaction to the positive, and very much real, story of Eriksen signing a new contract with Tottenham, Schoots explained how happy everyone is.
Speaking to Danish newspaper BT, the agent explained: “I do not need to comment on the negotiations. Christian is happy, the club is happy and the manager is happy. And after seeing the first reactions on social media, the club’s fans are very happy. So everyone is happy, what more could you ask for?”
Schoots went on to explain Eriksen is happy in his personal life, has recently moved into a new house, and that all shows how happy he is at Spurs: “Christian is very happy with Tottenham. Both as a player and as a human being with his girlfriend. They moved to a new home a month ago and that does not happen in the middle of the summer transfer window if you are in doubt about whether you are happy to be somewhere.”
That’s enough happiness.
Eriksen’s agent took time to shoot down rumours of huge salary demands, blaming the reporting of gossip as fact: “We have read these crazy stories about what I would have asked for. But that does not mean that I am obliged to correct them.
“The only way to handle them is to accept that this is how today – especially with the internet. Here the information is not necessarily just information anymore. It’s gossip. It must be accepted, and then we take care of the serious stuff.”
A lot of that gossip is pushed by agents, but you wouldn’t catch Martin Schoots doing that, he’s too busy making sure his client is happy.
