Earlier today, we covered quotes from Wolverhampton Wanderers star Ruben Neves, who was clearly flirting with a move to Barcelona.
Speaking to the Portuguese media, the midfielder talked about the ‘privilege’ of being linked to the Camp Nou side, making it clear he’d be keen on a switch to the La Liga giants.
It turns out those weren’t the only quotes in which Neves talked about a potential exit from Wolves. A move away from Molineux was also mentioned when he was speaking about his friend André Horta.
The Braga midfielder was very close to Benfica during the last summer window, and talking to Canal 11, Neves pointed out that his friend’s desire was always to sign for the Eagles. Commenting on the frustration of seeing such a transfer collapse, the Wolves player claimed he went through the same thing.
“I know that going to Benfica is Ricardo’s dream. I know he would be extremely happy and I, as a friend, would be extremely happy for him. I always want the best for my friends,” Neves told Canal 11 (via O Jogo).
“Sometimes not moving to a club of bigger dimension and aspirations is something that happens, it happened to me two years ago and it happened this summer with Ricardo, much to my regret, because I know it’s a dream of his. Sometimes it feels like things are about to happen, but in football there are a lot of variables.”
Since Neves doesn’t make it clear which club were close to taking him from Wolves at the time, that only makes us wonder. The midfielder wasn’t heavily linked with a departure in the summer of 2020, despite some reports naming Manchester United as an interested party, and maybe Barcelona were already keen back then.
