Defender Robin Koch has hailed his time at Leeds United and the development he enjoyed there, despite deciding to move on this summer.
The centre-back has been speaking at a press conference today after completing his move to Eintracht Frankfurt last week, relayed by Kicker.
He is the latest to depart Elland Road in what is likely to be a busy summer for them as they rebuild under new manager Daniel Farke for life back in the Championship.
He has initially left Leeds on a loan deal but is set to join the German side on a permanent basis next year when his contract with Leeds comes to an end.
That will bring a permanent close to his time with the club, who he joined in a €13m deal from SC Freiburg in August 2020 and made 77 appearances for over the last three years.
He is more than happy with how his time at the club went, but says a gut decision led him to leaving this summer.
“In the end it was a gut decision. I just have a great feeling, which was confirmed in the first two days,” he said.
“The situation in Leeds was difficult, including for me personally. I needed some distance first. Then I dealt with Eintracht and other topics.
“New language, new culture, getting out of my comfort zone – that helped me a lot as a person. I had to adapt (in England).
“The year and a half that I was able to work with him (Bielsa) brought me a lot. How he understands the game and explained football to us or to me personally in individual video reviews was very special.”
