Comparisons between Manchester City’s Ilkay Gundogan and Manchester United’s Paul Pogba have been popular recently for those outside of the Old Trafford circle. With Gundogan being a German international, it therefore follows that the trend has made its way to Germany.

SportBild have a page in their magazine this week which says Gundogan: The better Pogba.

Clearly revelling in the idea of their man being better than Manchester United’s Pogba, SportBild compare the stats. The German magazine credits Gundogan with 3 assists to Pogba’s 0, 5 goals to Pogba’s 4, and 1 haircut to Pogba’s 5.

The cost of the two players is also wheeled out and SportBild explain that Gundogan is feeling physically great, with Manchester City doing everything they can to keep the midfielder fit.

That’s been the big problem with Gundogan, and part of the reason he cost €27m, another reason being his Dortmund contract situation at the time.

There’s no doubt Gundogan is a bargain at €27m, as long as he stays fit, but perhaps the German media are celebrating, and mocking Pogba, too soon.
