On Tuesday Spanish newspaper Marca covered Real Madrid interest in signing Real Sociedad’s Yuri Berchiche. The Spanish side are looking for a back-up to Marcelo, with patience having run out with Fabio Coentrao and his injury problems.
Pep Guardiola’s need to strengthen his fullback positions both in quality an depth this summer is well known, so any reasonable option can seem plausible.
Marca continue the Manchester City links on Wednesday and say Guardiola has been sending scouts to watch Yuri and has been left with a ‘very positive impression’.
Yuri’s clause is €30m and Marca believe Real Sociedad won’t drop below that. It would be extravagant for Madrid to pay €30m for a back-up, especially one who is 27 years of age.
With Manchester City’s need greater, the Premier League club may be more willing to meet the fixed price.
