It’s probably not often that Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola will find himself backed when criticising Real Madrid in Spain, at least outside of Catalonia, but there’s a first time for everything and AS do it today.
The newspaper today cover the Manchester City manager’s criticism of the pitch after their 3-3 draw with Real Madrid this week, and explain he wasn’t the only one making comments on the matter.
Guardiola was critical of the state of the pitch at the Bernabeu after his side’s draw on Tuesday, insisting the Spanish side should worry more about taking care of the surface.
He was supported in that by midfielder Rodri after the game and it seems Manchester City were not the only ones unimpressed.
AS say that before the start of the game and during the warm up, both sets of players were discussing the pitch, and it was ‘one of the topics of conversation’. Even those in charge of organising the event admitted the pitch was not in the best of condition.
They add that even the day before the match, several analysts from different television stations had also ‘put the issue on the table’. They too, felt that the pitch was not up to the usual standard.
They and everyone else, seemed to think something was up and for once it wasn’t just Pep Guardiola making up strange excuses post-match.
Thus, AS and journalist Xavi Heras are in support today, showing that every so often you can be surprised by the stance a newspaper takes.
