Barcelona have a ‘very clear’ objective of retaining Manchester City’s João Cancelo beyond this season, according to Mundo Deportivo
Last summer, the La Liga side took the right-back on a dry loan deal and they’ll have to find a new agreement with the Citizens to keep him.
The 29-year-old’s deal at Manchester City lasts until 2027 but he doesn’t have a future at the Etihad. That’s because Pep Guardiola doesn’t want to have the defender in the squad.
The manager seems to have maintained this stance for over a year, resulting in Cancelo going out on loan, first to Bayern Munich, and then to Barca.
Thursday’s Sport also has a report on the Catalan club’s desire to extend the fullback’s stay.
Barca have already started preparing a plan for next season and would like Cancelo to be part of it. This would depend on the negotiations with Manchester City, and the newspaper states it won’t be easy.
Sport are also reporting that Guardiola doesn’t count on the Portugal international, Barca are willing to buy him but not at any price.
They could offer between €15m and €20m, which may not please the Premier League winners.
It’s claimed Cancelo’s desire to stay at the Camp Nou and the pressure from his agent, Jorge Mendes, will be key to convince Manchester City to lower their request.
