Celtic’s Luis Palma has been on loan at Lech Poznań since last summer. The Polish club have a €4m purchase option with Wilfried Nancy’s side.
The winger has scored six goals and contributed seven assists from 24 games. His good start improved his chances of extending his stay beyond this season.
On November 6th, Lech Poznań communications director Maciej Henszel said they’ll have to break their transfer record to buy him from Celtic. Later that month, Meczyki.pl stated they are looking for creative solutions to make Palma’s stay permanent as they currently can’t afford to pay €4m.
There’s been a new twist in the Palma case. Journalist Dawid Dobrasz shares an update on Meczyki.pl and Sport.pl have relayed his comments.
According to Dobrasz, Lech Poznań aren’t pleased with the Honduras international’s recent performances.
Honduras missed out on qualification for the next World Cup after failing to beat Costa Rica last month. Palma has failed to score or register an assist since November’s international break.
The journalist states that as things stand, Lech Poznań won’t exercise the clause to buy the Celtic man.
“Regarding Palma, there’s growing dissatisfaction with Bułgarska. As of today, if they were to make the decision to buy him out, they wouldn’t. That’s what I’ve heard here,” he said.
“He should have handled his scoring situations better. Luis Palma lacks long-range shots. There’s something about this player that’s making him less fit. Perhaps it is the failure to advance with Honduras, perhaps it is fatigue.”
This is clearly a drastic change in Palma’s situation in Poland. If things don’t improve, it will impact his chances of extending his stay at Lech Poznań. That is, if it’s not all a ploy to get the price down.
