Rangers manager Philippe Clement has regularly relied upon Rıdvan Yılmaz at Ibrox but that wasn’t enough for the left-back to represent Turkey in the first three international breaks of this season.
Turkey manager Vincenzo Montella didn’t include the 22-year-old in the squad initially for this month’s international break but had to call-up the Rangers player following an injury to Fenerbahçe’s Ferdi Kadıoğlu.
On Friday, Yılmaz started in the friendly defeat to Hungary but was forced to withdraw due to injury.
Ajansspor state this is a ‘great misfortune’ for the Rangers fullback as he ‘left injured’, and Philippe Clement will now be concerned.
It’s explained that the Ibrox defender hurt his foot and he stood up first, before falling on the pitch again after a while.
The Rangers man requested assistance and was replaced by Fenerbahçe’s Mert Müldür in the 27th minute. The latter’s preferred position is on the right side of defence but Montella used him as a left-back as an emergency solution.
The extent of Yılmaz’s injury is yet to be determined and it needs to be seen if he’ll be fit to face Austria next week.
Yılmaz has two goals and an assist from 28 games for Philippe Clement’s side this season.
