Gennaro Gattuso would be a perfect manager for Rangers in the future. That’s at least according to Kyle Lafferty, although he’s not advocating for Danny Röhl to go already.
Lafferty has been speaking to I Love Palermo Calcio about the Italy manager. He thinks he should return to Ibrox in future as Rangers manager.
Gattuso is currently manager of the Italian national side. They’re set to take on Northern Ireland in the World Cup play-offs in March.
It’s his first foray into international management after previous managerial roles at FC Sion, Palermo, OFI Crete, Pisa, AC Milan, Napoli, Valencia and Marseille. He took charge of the Italians in June.
It was his time at Palermo that saw him working with Lafferty in the 2013-14 season. The two had previously been teammates at FC Sion.
But the striker would like to see him head somewhere else, Rangers. Gattuso had a brief but impactful one-year career at Ibrox in 1997 as a 19-year-old. He quickly established himself at the club under Walter Smith and remains a firm fan favourite to this day, despite the brief spell.
He’s been consistently linked with the Rangers manager job in the last decade. In fact, he stated it would be an honour to take charge at Ibrox. Lafferty would very much like to see that happen.
“I’m very happy he’s leading the Italian national team because I have great respect for him,” he said.
“He’s a great professional as well as a great man. Given his past at Glasgow Rangers, I hope to see him lead them one day. I’m convinced the relationship between him and the Scottish club would be excellent.”
