Slavia Prague manager Jindřich Trpišovský has admitted it is an honour for him to see his name linked with Crystal Palace, even if he doubts he’d actually be in the running should a vacancy open up.
Trpišovský has been speaking to DNES’s Prague edition about life as a football manager following Jurgen Klopp’s recent decision to announce his departure from Liverpool.
The German boss has decided to leave Anfield at the end of the season after admitting he’s run out of energy, a decision which not only shocked football but also set the rumour mill running.
He’s not the only manager who appears to feel that way as Xavi Hernandez followed suit not long after by announcing a departure from Barcelona.
Indeed, it appears there will be several managerial changes in the summer and, and it could be the case at Crystal Palace.
They’re currently led by Roy Hodgson, but there’s discontent, with a series of disappointing results and the bizarre situation around Michael Olise in the weekend loss to Brighton piling the pressure on the veteran boss.
Some Crystal Palace fans want change, and several names are already being lined up by the press, including Trpišovský, who is delighted, albeit dubious of the links.
“Although Crystal Palace will certainly not consider anyone from the Czech Republic, it is a great honor for me and for all of Slavia,” he said.
“It turns out that we work well when my name appears next to Slot from Feyenoord or the American Marsch who managed Leipzig and Leeds.
“When we played Chelsea in the quarterfinals of the Europa League five years ago, we happened to be training at Crystal Palace. I like these traditional old school clubs from London. But employment there is a utopia.”
