Graham Potter would be a perfect candidate for Ajax this summer, with his payoff from Chelsea potentially making him available on the cheap.

That’s according to journalist Mark van Rijswijk, who believes the Dutch club should look at the former Chelsea boss if they decide not to stick with John Heitinga this summer.

Heitinga has been in charge at Ajax since February this year, when he came in to replace Alfred Schreuder, who had endured a miserable spell in charge after replacing Erik ten Hag last year.

He’s proven to be a solid candidate for the position in his caretaker role, although there is continued speculation that Ajax will look for a more experienced, or even big-name manager to replace him in the summer.

There has been some suggestions that they should move for Julian Nagelsmann, but Van Rijswijk is having none of that, and believes that Potter would be a far better option despite his struggles at Chelsea.

“I would try, if they think he is good enough, at Graham Potter,” he said, relayed by Voetbal Zone.

“That was a top coach at Brighton. At Chelsea, he didn’t make it, but he was given €68m. Maybe at Ajax he will do it for €5m.

“He doesn’t have to worry financially. And is there another top club in the Premier League waiting for him? In terms of name, I wouldn’t consider that an illogical endeavour. It would be more realistic than Nagelsmann.”
