Everton failed in their efforts to sign Merlin Röhl in January, after an offer was rejected by SC Freiburg.
The Premier League club weren’t put off and have continued to show interest in the 23-year-old this summer. Towards the end of June, we covered claims from Germany that the Toffees had made two offers for him.
Bild then reported David Moyes’ side would need to bid €20m to acquire Röhl’s signature. Everton haven’t completed his signing yet but are on track to close this operation before the window closes later today.
Sky Deutschland took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to report that the midfielder has already said goodbye to his current teammates and Freiburg.
It’s further claimed the German is already in England, undergoing medical tests with the Merseyside club. It’s only a matter of time before they make his signing official as Sky say his transfer to Everton is ‘imminent’.
There’s no clarity on the fee the English club will pay to Freiburg for Röhl or the formula. This will be clarified when Everton make his signing official.
