Wolves’ pursuit of Lazio goalkeeper Christos Mandas is heating up again, with the Italian club now desperate for a sale.
A new report from Il Messaggero highlights a discrepancy in the player’s valuation and signals a softening of Lazio’s stance.
Wolves have been monitoring the 24-year-old Greek keeper for over a year. Il Messaggero recall that when Wolves first approached Lazio, the club had been keen on keeping Mandas.
At that point, Mandas’ entourage was informed of his importance to the first-team. This communication was given as a key reason for rejecting a transfer bid from the Midlands side in the summer.
Crucially, the Italian newspaper appears to downplay the value of Wolves’ prior offer, suggesting it was only €12m. Past reports put the figure at €20m.
There’s a chance the lower amount was without bonus payments.
Wolves have all the power
The Greek stopper is yet to play once in Serie A this and is expected to make his last Lazio appearance this week, against AC Milan in the Coppa Italia. As a result, the player’s entourage is actively looking to seal a January exit.
Interested clubs, including Fiorentina, have only proposed loan deals so far, this does not suit Lazio. ‘There will be developments’ in the next few weeks is what the newspaper now indicate.
Due to mounting financial troubles, the Biancocelesti are exclusively seeking a permanent transfer. That is what Wolves need to sign the Greece international, and the amount could end up surprisingly low.
