Diego Llorente’s performances for Leeds United in the recently concluded season have now been rewarded with a call up from Spain for their upcoming fixtures.

La Roja manager Luis Enrique’s initially called up had Manchester City centre-back Aymeric Laporte for the national team’s UEFA Nations League matches against Portugal and Czech Republic next month.

The Manchester City man suffered an injury and has been forced to withdraw from the squad. Laporte has now been replaced by the Leeds United defender.

Enrique’s decision to replace Pep Guardiola’s man with Llorente has been confirmed by Selección Española de Fútbol’s official website on Wednesday.

The Leeds United player will now join the national team squad for training at the Ciudad del Fútbol on May 30th.

Llorente made it to Enrique’s squad for last summer’s European championship. However, he finished the tournament without making an appearance. The former Barcelona coach did not look at Jesse Marsch’s man for most of the last year.

An injury to Manchester City’s Laporte has now opened the door for Llorente to return to the Spain squad.
