A few days ago, we covered the news in Belgium that Henry Onyekuru could be out for several months after suffering a medial knee ligament injury, which put his hopes of playing in the World Cup with Nigeria in doubt.

Needing to feature in the tournament to have any hope of getting the work permit necessary to complete his move to Everton, the 20-year-old was described by many as ‘facing a fitness battle’ to be on the plane to Russia.

Well, according to the latest news from DH, that might not be a problem anymore, as instead of being out for six months if he went under the knife, he could only be out for six weeks.

The Belgian outlet report on Friday that Everton doctors, after another MRI, have deemed an operation on his knee ‘avoidable’, and there’s every chance he’d be back for the Jupiler Pro League playoffs.

In order to do this, the forward would have to return to England for a bit to go through some special treatment, but first, he needs to rest.
