Villarreal defender Jorge Cuenca is expected to complete a move to Fulham this summer.
That’s at least what Sport are reporting, and they state the La Liga side have ‘closed the sale’ of the 24-year-old to Fulham.
It’s further claimed Marco Silva’s side will pay €6.5m to the Yellow Submarine and this is ‘good news’ for Barcelona.
The Catalan club signed the centre-back from lower division side AD Alcorcón in 2017. He played only one game for their senior team and was mainly restricted to appearances with their youth teams.
Villarreal signed him from Barca in 2020 for €2.5m plus €4m in potential bonus payments. The Blaugrana will also receive 20% of a future sale, and Sport say the ‘time has come’ to collect this, after their La Liga colleagues agreed a deal with Fulham.
The report adds Hansi Flick’s side will collect €1.3m from Cuenca’s sale to Marco Silva’s side. That’s ‘good news’ for Barca because they will receive ‘unexpected’ income, which can improve their finances.
Sport make no mention of whether the player has agreed a deal with Fulham, but this should have been sorted out, considering Villarreal have closed the deal to sell him.
Cuenca made 37 appearances in all competitions for Villarreal last season.
