Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens ruled out a move to Leeds United earlier in his career.

Het Nieuwsblad have been speaking to the 22-year-old on several topics, and he spoke about Leeds United’s approach.

The Whites were among the clubs to have shown interest in the stopper but weren’t able to secure his services.

Lammens has now revealed he had good talks with the Championship club but wasn’t entirely convinced on their project. He opened up about snubbing Leeds when asked about the clubs he had turned down in the past.

“All the top Belgian teams, when I was 16. Then you start listening. Foreign teams too,” he said.

“When I chose Antwerp, there were offers from English clubs. Not immediately as a first team keeper, but with an interesting long-term plan. There was good contact with Leeds, among others.”

The stopper mentioned teams from England, likely including Daniel Farke’s side, are still keeping an eye on him.

“Those teams keep following you. So, who knows, one day… The Premier League is still the best competition there is,” Lammens explained.

“But the move to Antwerp was the best anyway. Going abroad alone, without family and without a girlfriend, that was probably too early.”

The Jupiler Pro League club signed the goalkeeper from Club Brugge in June 2023. Leeds would have showed interest in the winter 2023 market, when there were reports linking him to the English club.

Back in January 2023, Het Laatste Nieuws reported Leeds wanted to sign Lammens and Club Brugge were anticipating his move to Elland Road.

Lammens’ decision to join Royal Antwerp over other clubs has paid off as he’s been their first-choice stopper since the start of this season. The Belgian has kept eight clean sheets and conceded 45 goals from 37 games this season.
