Earlier on Monday, we covered an article from Gazzetta dello Sport stating that Tottenham had placed Jonathan David at the top of their list of potential Harry Kane replacement.
Spurs are currently negotiating the England international’s potential sale to Bayern Munich, and while it hasn’t gone through yet, the Premier League club still need to have alternatives at the ready in case it does.
Regarding Jonathan David, the Canada international is undoubtedly prolific, but there are some who are wary that he could end up taking too big of a step if he’s not careful, although Tottenham would not be it, according to Walid Acherchour on the After RMC, relayed by Le Petit Lillois.
He said: “He’s the kind of player who will go to Tottenham. He should leave for around €45m. Lille want €60m, but that’s too much. They did buy him for a lot. Tottenham would be a good club for him, but he can’t go to the top European clubs that are looking for a number nine.
“Maybe for €50m, he’ll leave, but that’s very, very expensive. David has had two full and reassuring seasons.”
Therefore, there are some behind the idea that David could be making the right move were he to sign for Tottenham, although there are doubts as to whether he can fully function as a sole number nine.
Acherchour recalled that the striker’s best seasons came when he was aligned next to another striker, which might not necessarily be the case at Spurs.
Therefore, Tottenham will have to be wary if they do move for him.
