Red Bull Salzburg’s Maximilian Wöber is edging towards a move to Leeds United in the winter market.
Monday’s Salzburger Nachrichten states the defender is ready to take on a new challenge at the Premier League side after holding talks with Jesse Marsch.
A move to Leeds will see the 24-year-old not only improve his salary, but also be able to have a better sporting challenge in one of the top leagues in Europe.
At the same time, the Austrian champions will do ‘good business’ from the defender’s sale to the Whites in January.
Salzburg, who paid €10.5m when signing Wöber, won’t sell him for less than €20m including bonuses. Despite insisting this, the newspaper say it can be assumed that an ‘agreement will be reached’ over a move to Leeds.
The Austrian club have reacted to the Austria international’s ‘upcoming move to Leeds’ by identifying a few targets to replace him.
Salzburger Nachrichten are confident the deal will take shape as they state the question is not whether he will move to Leeds, but when the transfer will take shape. Their title says the player will leave for €20m.
Wöber can operate as a centre-back and a left-back.
He has mainly played on the left side of defence this season, managing two goals and eight assists from 26 games.
