Mat Ryan, who spent time at Arsenal on loan last season, has revealed midfielder Martin Odegaard is ‘open’ to a return to Real Sociedad in the future.

Odegaard joined Arsenal from Real Madrid on a permanent basis in the summer transfer window after a loan spell at the Emirates last season.

He’s established himself as a key player under Mikel Arteta so far, providing the creative edge the side had been lacking in the number ten role.

Before that, he had spent the majority of his career in Spain, having joined Real Madrid as a youngster and then been sent out on various loan deals by them.

One of those was to Real Sociedad, where he very much flourished, becoming their star man and managing seven goals and nine assists in 36 games during a highly productive year on loan at the club.

And it seems that Ryan, who played alongside Odegaard at Arsenal last season and then joined La Real in the summer, has it on good authority that he’d be willing to make the move again in the future.

“Yes, frequently,” he told Mundo Deportivo, who asked if he speaks to the Norwegian.

“Before I knew Real were interested in me, he told me that Real, because of his experience here, was a great team, a 10 out of 10 in everything: the team, the life here, the public…everything.

“And now I agree with him. He’s comfortable at Arsenal, but he’s open to coming back one day, for sure.”
