Arijanet Muric had a two-year spell at Burnley between 2022 and 2024.
The goalkeeper featured in the Championship and Premier League for the Clarets, playing 55 times in all competitions. That is the most he’s ever played at a single club in his career.
This helped him earn a move to Ipswich Town, with the 27-year-old currently impressing on loan at Sassuolo.
Muric spoke to Sassuolo’s Youtube channel on Monday and was asked about a number of things regarding his career.
The Kosovo keeper spoke about his time at Burnley, explaining that Vincent Kompany was key to the transfer.
He said, relayed by SassuoloNews: “I played with Vincent Kompany, and even off the pitch, during my time at Manchester. We were friends.
“When he went to Anderlecht, I left too. One day, Kompany called me and asked, ‘Where are you?’ And I replied, ‘I’m here!’ He told me he was going to Burnley and asked me if I wanted to go too, if I wanted to join. And I said, ‘Yes, I want to come too.’”
Burnley part of growing experience
Muric revealed he had multiple offers but Kompany’s insistence proved decisive.
“At that point, I had received other offers, but obviously when he called me, I thought, ‘OK, let’s go with him.’”
Speaking further about his time with the Clarets, the goalkeeper said: “We had a great season in the league. We set records. Then we went to the Premier League. It was a little more difficult, but as a player, he was always very serious and strict.”
Muric also shed some light on Kompany’s attention to detail.
“I remember him analysing every striker in the dressing room. As a coach, he’s incredible. From 7am in the morning until 10pm at night, he’s in his office working. He’s fantastic, an incredible coach.”
The spell Burnley has clearly helped. That is when he could showcase his ability on the ball and he also rose as a leader.
That is clearly on show at Sassuolo, where Muric has played ten times in Serie A. The Neroverdi find themselves eighth in the table and the Kosovo international has been key to that.
He’s still only 27 and has experiences in Italy, Turkey, Spain, Switzerland and England already.
