With few Italians having played for Celtic over the years, when the Scottish side face someone from Serie A in Europe, Massimo Donati is the one they turn to.
At least, that’s what they’ve done this time around, as the Kilmarnock coach has been on an interview spree ahead of Thursday’s clash against Lazio.
Already speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport on Wednesday, the former defensive midfielder, who spent two years at Parkhead between 2007 and 2009, also had a chat with TuttoMercatoWeb on Thursday.
One of the points he was keen to make, which was advice for Lazio themselves, was to beware of the atmosphere at Celtic Park.
He said: “We played against Celtic a few weeks ago, we lost 3-1 in Glasgow, but we were ahead. Clearly what is said about the atmosphere of Celtic Park is true. Cup games are special, there’s a really incredible air and the team is supported in this way that gives that little something extra.
“What you feel before the game and before is electrifying. I’ve had good fortune to live nice nights there and it won’t be easy for those who play against them. All in all, Celtic is a good team with important individuals. Of course, if you take the names as they are, Lazio are certainly better, but the home factor can weigh [in Celtic’s favour]”.
Donati once again picked out James Forrest and Odsonne Édouard as the two main threats for Simone Inzaghi to beware of in the important European game.
Celtic currently sit top of Group E after two games with four points, and a win against Lazio would cement their position nicely, especially if CFR Cluj drop some points away to Rennes.
