Sunderland have positioned themselves to sign AS Roma’s Matías Soulé, one of multiple Premier League clubs to have interest.
The 23-year-old’s future with the Serie A side remains uncertain and he could be on the move this summer.
Sunderland have emerged as a new option for the attacking midfielder, who scored seven goals and contributed eight assists from 42 matches last season.
On June 15th, Sport Witness covered claims from Italy that Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa are in the picture. The Serie A side are requesting €35-40m, after dismissing claims of €25-30m release clause.
Three days later, we relayed news the player’s entourage has held talks with the Villans and West Ham United.
Sunderland join race for signing
Tele Radio Stereo now cover the Black Cats’ interest in Matías Soulé.
He has attracted interest from the Premier League, unnamed clubs in Saudi Arabia and Borussia Dortmund.
The Argentine isn’t keen on making a move to the Middle East but is tempted by the possibility of joining BVB.
However, the Bundesliga side haven’t made concrete advances so far. Therefore, the AS Roma attacker may consider moving to the Premier League this summer.
Sunderland’s interest gets a mention, and it’s their sporting director, Florent Ghisolfi, who is leading the pursuit.
The Frenchman spent one year with the Serie A side as their director. In his first month, the Giallorossi signed Soulé from Juventus.
Ghisolfi seems to be keen on bringing him to the Stadium of Light in this window, as Régis Le Bris’ side have recently made contact to sign the South American.
It’s not clear whether the English club contacted the player’s camp, Gian Piero Gasperini’s side or both.
Sunderland have qualified for the Europa League, after finishing seventh last season, and whether this can tempt the Argentine is unclear.
Contract, value and agent info
Matías Soulé has a contract until 2029 and is valued at €35m by Transfermarkt.
Agent Martin Ariel Guastadisegno, who mainly represents Argentine players, represents the AS Roma player.
Earlier claims mentioned Roma’s price is around €35-40m and it’s unclear whether the Black Cats are willing to meet their demand.
