Last week, we saw reports from both Germany and France stating that Aston Villa have made an offer for Bayer Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby.

The figures mentioned varied from less than €30m to a deal worth around €47m but it didn’t please the Bundesliga side, who want €60m for the winger.

Rheinische Post reiterates that Leverkusen have rejected Aston Villa’s offer for the 24-year-old and explains that ‘it is still possible’ for him to leave the club in the summer window.

After relaying claims made elsewhere, the newspaper states the Frenchman has already expressed his wish to join Unai Emery’s side. It’s further claimed the Villans are ‘getting serious’ in their pursuit to secure his services.

There’s a possibility for the winger to leave the German club before the start of the new season, provided Aston Villa ‘dig deeper into their pockets’.

Rheinische Post say there’s no clarity over the fee needed to convince Leverkusen but it should be around €60m.

Aston Villa will have to battle it out with Al-Nassr to sign Diaby in this window.

That’s according to RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins, who says the Saudi Arabian side have made an offer of €38m plus €5m bonuses.

With regards to Emery’s side, Hawkins says they ‘will make a second offer’ for Diaby.
