A month ago, Mainz midfielder Yunus Malli was linked with a move to Southampton, the club said to have ‘strong interest’, whilst Tottenham’s interest in the Turkish international has also been reported this year.
German newspaper Bild have an update on Malli’s future at the Bundesliga club. It’s been reported the 24-year-old has a release clause in his contract that can be activated next summer.
Malli reportedly wanted to leave for Borussia Dortmund in January this year, but Mainz blocked his move. However, the Bundesliga side might be forced to consider a sale in January next year, if they want to sell him for a higher fee than his release clause.
Several clubs are keen on Malli, who has 8 goals and six assists to his name already this season. The Turkish midfielder was impressive last season too, and it’s only a matter of time before he gets his big move.
Bild haven’t mentioned the amount of his release clause, but Malli’s future could be decided soon with him having a contract until 2018 at Mainz.
There’s worry at mainz about the situation, which suggests the clause is low, and Mahli’s uncle, and agent, Ilhan is quoted as saying: “If interesting offers come, we’ll sit down together.”
Southampton’s interested has sounded the strongest recently, and therefore it’s more likely Claude Puel will make a move than Mauricio Pochettino.
