Just under 2 weeks ago, Swiss newspaper 20 Minutes caused a fuss when they said FC Basel’s Breel Embolo’s future was set for a new twist.
In January, Embolo had been heavily linked to Wolfsburg, with there even being claims a deal was agreed with the German side.
That didn’t materialise and then it was the turn of Red Bull Leipzig, with again there being claims that some kind of deal had been agreed.
Then 20 Minutes said things were very different and Embolo was closing in on a Manchester United move. It was stated that Embolo was edging towards an Old Trafford move, after Jose Mourinho’s club came in strongly to wreck RB’s chances.
Since then there hasn’t been anything hugely concrete from Switzerland, where the story broke. The country’s media are very focused on Euro 2016 and Embolo is too.
However, RB have made their feelings clear and have now pulled out of any deal. Quoted by Switzerland’s Der Bund, Leipzig’s sport director Ralf Rangnick stated: “We have informed yesterday evening both the consultants of Breel Embolo and the officials of FC Basel that we are no longer interested in a transfer.”
Der Bund suggest that could mean he’s set to join Manchester United, just like 20 Minutes said.
