Gary O’Neil decisions present further worry over signing Wolves player

The Portuguese media continues to fret about Gary O’Neil giving a decent chunk of minutes to Chiquinho during preseason.

Wolves faced West Ham at the weekend as part of their training camp and managed to win the match 3-1. That isn’t what caught the eye of Record, who note, rather forlornly for Sporting CP, that Chiquinho started the match and played for over an hour.

It’s explained to a Portuguese audience that O’Neil has given his ‘preference’ to the winger during preseason and appears to be increasingly fond of him.

That is quite obviously bad news for Sporting and their chances of signing the 24-year-old in the current market. Either they decide to keep the player or will likely ask for more than they otherwise would have done.

Record say O’Neil deciding to take a good look at the player ‘could make a deal difficult’ for Sporting to do. They’re going to have to play a waiting game and their transfer chances are entirely at the mercy of Wolves.
