On Monday afternoon, we covered a report from Brazil which said Gabigol was close to joining a club from the ‘top half of the Premier League table’.

The story was written by Yahoo journalist Jorge Nicola, and given all the rumours around the striker from the past few months, we’ve pointed out that Everton and West Ham could be these sides.

The report claimed that the Premier League club was only waiting for the FA to accept their request for a work permit, then they would close a deal.

Some hours later, Nicola was at ESPN Brasil to discuss several topics, and talked about the story once again. He still couldn’t say the name of the club, as the info was coming from ‘a person close to the player’.

What Nicola could explain is Inter Milan’s plans for the player. It’s claimed that this English club would now pay a fee to get Gabigol on a loan deal, and then this fee would be discounted from a buying option at the end of the season.

Inter are said to be giving total priority for a deal with an European club, and only in case it doesn’t happen, they would negotiate the player’s move with a Brazilian side again.

With no other European clubs being mentioned, it looks like the so called Premier League side doesn’t have much competition for now.

Gabigol has spent the past year on loan at Santos, where he’s had a great season with 27 goals in 53 appearances.
