Brentford could be signing a “future top player” in Feyenoord’s Antonio Milambo, who should be starring regularly for the Netherlands U21s this summer.

That’s according to ‘top scouts’ Piet Buter and Hans van der Zee, in an interview with De Telegraaf, relayed by Voetbal Primeur.

Brentford have been chasing Milambo for more than a month at this point, after the 20-year-old made a trip to London to meet the club and agree personal terms.

The saga has been developing from there, with a report at the beginning of this month stating that a Brentford delegation had travelled out to the Netherlands to try and push the deal over the line.

That was followed by a report on the 11th that they were very close to a deal. the transfer has not been completed in the ten days since, though.

In the meantime, Milambo is at the Under 21 Euros with the Netherlands. He’s found himself playing a bit part role under Michael Reiziger, though, something he personally has insisted he has no problem with.

Buter and Van der Zee are on the other side of the fence, insisting that the Brentford target should be playing as he’s a star of the future.

“He is a very good midfielder, and he can certainly make the Dutch national team,” said Van der Zee.

“Milambo has insight into the game, keeps a good overview when he has the ball, can play in multiple midfield positions and is dynamic with a good feeling for when to go deep.

“I find it very strange that he is not playing, considering that he has been in the starting line-up at Feyenoord for the entire season.”

“He is potentially a great player. What is very good about him is that he can play at a very high tempo in small spaces. That is a characteristic of a future top player,” added Buter.
