On Thursday, Sport stated Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is in ‘love’ with Royal Antwerp’s Arthur Vermeeren. It was also reported the Premier League side have made contact with his entourage.
The Catalan newspaper mentioned the Red Devils when explaining Barcelona’s interest to sign the 18-year-old.
Sport’s claim about Barca is relayed by Friday’s Het Nieuwsblad, who then provide their own information on this case.
It’s claimed the midfielder is on the ‘wish list’ at both Manchester United and Newcastle United.
With regards to claims of the Blaugrana’s interest, the report states the Jupiler Pro League side aren’t aware of this so far. However, they know Barca scouts have watched the player in action several times.
Back in February, Vermeeren signed a new contract until 2026. Antwerp’s desire is to retain him for at least one more season and this view is also shared by the Belgium U19 international. Het Nieuwsblad hint Antwerp could sanction his sale if there’s a ‘crazy offer’.
Over at Mundo Deportivo, they also state Barca have followed the teenager several times as he ‘stands out’ for Antwerp. He’s unlikely to end up at the Camp Nou since ‘his future points to the Premier League’.
Mundo add an unnamed English club would agree a deal with Antwerp and let Vermeeren stay with them on loan next season.
This would see Antwerp fulfil their desire to retain the midfielder until 2024 and also allow him to continue his development in Belgium.
