ESPN Brasil features today an interview with Wolverhampton Wanderers fullback Fernando Marçal.

The 31-year-old, who joined Wolves on a €2.2m move from Lyon last summer, is barely known in his home country, as he’s spent most of his career playing in Europe.

So Marçal talked about the positive points about it, claiming he can have his vacations in Brazil without being bothered by anyone.

“The good thing about not being so well-known in Brazil is that I go on vacation and stay easy. I go to the beach, do what I want (laughs), there is no one on me”, Marçal told ESPN.

On his move to Wolves this summer, Marçal said: “I didn’t think twice about coming, because Wolves, as everyone is watching in Brazil too, and I also watched before coming, you can see the growth in recent years, the investment they’ve made, the project is very good. It was easy to accept this invitation, mainly because of the league”.

Asked about a potential return to South America, Marçal claims he doesn’t have a big wish to play in Brazil again, although a move could happen in the future.

“I don’t have this desire to be recognized in Brazil, to play. Honestly, I always get very balanced, because I’m very used to Europe. All seasons we end up receiving invitations from Brazilian clubs, and there’s always that taste, of course, since it’s my country.”

“If I played at least one season it would be interesting, but as it has worked out here and the family is very used to it, we always end up making the decision to stay. But the future belongs to God.”

Marçal signed a two-year deal with Wolves this summer. Despite spending most time on the bench, he started the three last games they had in the Premier League, and has eight appearances for the club so far.

Since he’s turning 32 very in February, the fullback is getting his last chances to play in Brazil again. With his contract expiring in 2022, his decision should have a lot to do with his situation at Wolves by then.
