Last week, speaking to the Spanish media, Fábio Silva revealed some details about his transfer from Porto to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The player claimed he did not want to make the move to Wolves, and felt forced by the Dragons to doing so, otherwise he’d get relegated to their reserve squad.
Well, that didn’t go well with most Porto fans who wanted to see more from the attacker at the club. Today, we get to see some anger coming from O Jogo columnist Jaime Cancella de Abreu.
He features a piece where he lists a few factors why Dragons president Pinto da Costa isn’t such a good man. One of the paragraphs is exclusively about Silva’s move to Wolves.
“We already knew that Fábio Silva was sold well below his termination clause, but well above his real value; we also knew that FC Porto paid a pornographic amount of commission fees for this sale; what we didn’t know, but we learnt this week, is that the player was threatened with being relegated to the B team if he didn’t agree to his transfer to Wolverhampton. A good example of how the management of football assets has been worse at the Dragão than the most perfidious of minds could have imagined.”
Wolves spent €40m to sign Silva from Porto back in 2020. At the time the Portuguese media reported that €10m went to commissions.
The attacker only made 72 appearances for the Molineux side, with five goals and six assists. He had loans at RSC Anderlecht, PSV and Rangers, where he he was for the past six months. Now he claims to be looking forward to playing in Spain, ruling out a comeback to the Premier League club.
