As Fulham remain alive for the signing of Benfica fullback Alejandro Grimaldo, the Portuguese media now reveals the requests he’s been making to renew his contract with the Eagles.
The 27-year-old’s deal with the Lisbon side expires at the end of the season, and as the club risk losing him for free, there are big demands for his stay in Portugal.
Those are today revealed by Record’s front page story. According to the outlet, Grimaldo wants €12m as a signing bonus, plus a salary worth €3m net per year, which means €6m gross for the club.
The reason for that heavy request is that Grimaldo is ‘seduced’ by playing in a top league, such as the Premier League or La Liga. That’s where Fulham are brought in, with the newspaper saying the Whites are interested in him.
Benfica are still hopeful of the left-back’s stay, and haven’t given up yet. However, they know this is ‘not an easy case’, both because of the numbers involved, and for his desire to go and play somewhere else.
So as Fulham watch the situation, they may just be seeing Grimaldo slipping from the Eagles’ hands.
