Fulham target Milan van Ewijk has admitted he wants to win the Ballon D’or in future, despite that being “impossible” for a defender.
Van Ewiijk is currently starring for Heerenveen in the Eredivisie after joining them in a €600,000 deal from Ado den Haag in July 2021.
His performances have not gone unnoticed in Europe and reports in the January transfer window made it clear that Fulham were considering a move.
Those reports made it clear that they had sent scouts to watch the defender to get a closer look at him, with Van Ewijk later commenting on the apparent interest and then admitting he would be interested in the switch to Craven Cottage in the summer.
That would certainly go someway to helping Van Ewijk achieve a career dream, winning the Ballon D’Or.
“The Brazilian Cafú is my great example,” FEAN Online report him saying.
“I have watched many of his matches. But also Cancelo from Manchester City, Alexander Arnold from Liverpool and Chelsea player (Reece) James.
“One day I want to win the Ballon d’Or, the Golden Ball for the best footballer of the year. As a defender, that is almost impossible and therefore an extra nice reward. Or be in the Eleven of the Year with the greatest players in the world . That would be great!”
Whether Fulham return to offer him his chance of Premier League football in the summer remains to be seen.
They were presumably keen on him in January as an alternative to Kenny Tete, with Kevin Mbabu having struggled since his arrival in the summer and eventually returning to Switzerland on loan.
Cedric Soares eventually arrived from Arsenal to fill that spot, with Fulham manager Marco Silva sharing his delight at getting that deal over the line this week.
That would suggest they won’t be looking at Van Ewijk in the summer and he may need to look elsewhere to start his path to Ballon D’Or glory.
