Missing the game against Manchester City, there was some concern over in Serbia that Fulham’s Aleksandar Mitrović could miss the start of the World Cup.
There was never a doubt as to whether he would be picked by his country, but his fitness was a concern for the opener against Brazil, with him potentially skipping that game to start against Cameroon.
However, in good news for Serbia, but not so much Fulham, he should return in time for the first World Cup game at the expense of featuring against Manchester United.
That’s according to Sportal in Serbia, who reassure their readers that both Mitrovic and Dusan Vlahovic should be back for the Brazil game.
They state ‘both injuries are in the process of being rehabilitated’ and their manager, as well as the national team doctors, ‘do not expect a big problem’.
That’s when the outlet state the Fulham star ‘will certainly miss’ the game against Manchester United, which will be the last time Marco Silva’s side play before the break for the international competition.
The reason for that is ‘so as not to risk anything, both for Fulham and the national team’.
Over at Manchester United, this news will certainly be well received, as facing Silva’s men without their top goalscorer will make life a bit easier for Erik ten Hag, who will want to make sure he finishes the first half of the season on a positive note.
Mitrovic has continued to be a great asset for the Craven Cottage side in the Premier League after a great season in the Championship, as he has scored nine goals in 12 appearances to date in England’s top tier.
