Fulham star Bernd Leno has ‘returned to his old strength’ and found happiness at Craven Cottage after a difficult spell at Arsenal.
That’s according to Sport 1, who cover the German goalkeeper today and how he ‘has his smile again’ following a difficult few years.
Leno was the star of the show this week as he saved Amadou Onana’s penalty in the Carabao Cup clash with Everton, a pivotal moment that led to his side progressing to the semi-finals of the competition for the first time in their history.
He was shown ‘with that big smile’ on his face as he and his teammates celebrated their success and the win at Goodison Park.
Leno stood in front of the Fulham fans and soaked in the praise and adulation, enjoying the moment as he’s had to ‘go through a deep valley’ in order to find his happiness again.
Sport 1 explain that his career had been outstanding until 2021 as he’d made his Bundesliga debut aged just 19, became the starting keeper for Bayer Leverkusen for several years and moved to Arsenal for €25m and been their undisputed number one as well.
But then the 2021/22 season came and he found himself demoted before being sold to Fulham last summer.
That move has worked out and he is now ‘more than back’ and ‘one of the great hopes’ of Marco Silva’s side, leading them towards a historic opportunity with his performance this week.
He’s so happy he recently extended his deal with Fulham until 2027, a further sign of his happiness and the face he had ‘returned to his old strength’ once again.
