Fulham star João Palhinha may have been hopeful that his collapsed summer move to Bayern Munich could now happen in the winter, but things are not looking great for him.
A week ago, the German media had already been claiming the midfielder may be set for a new heartbreak, as the Bundesliga side are actually looking for cheaper solutions.
Earlier today, Sport Bild wrote that although Bayern Munich look for a ‘holding six’ like the Fulham player, their top favourite is Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad.
Bild journalist Christian Falk confirms that information on Twitter, claiming that the Spaniard could ‘be given preference’ ahead of Palhinha.
It’s claimed that Zubimendi has a release clause worth around €60m, and Bayern Munich are ‘working intensively’ on his signing in the winter.
That makes it sound like the Bundesliga giants are not confident they could agree a deal with Fulham, maybe because Palhinha would cost a lot more than the Spaniard.
So if the Portuguese player had any hopes of getting his transfer done in January, it now seems he might be better off coming to terms with the idea of potentially staying at Craven Cottage.
