On July 25th, Mundo Deportivo reported Espanyol have already offered a new contract to David Lopez. His agent Albert Valles will study the proposal received and respond to them in the coming days.

Catalan newspaper Sport claim the club are now waiting for the player’s response after offering him a new deal. The figures offered by the Spanish club are less than what the newly promoted Premier League club are willing to pay if he joins them.

Rubi wants to retain Lopez, who is key for the club, both on and off the pitch. If he accepts his current employer’s proposal, then the talks about a move to England will disappear.

If the answer from the player is negative and if the Cottagers ‘improve their offer’ to sign the Spaniard and he joins them, Espanyol will be forced to enter the market to find a replacement.

At Espanyol, they speak of a major offer, but in reality, it is way below what the newly promoted Premier League club are ready to pay. There is no mention of the fee in the report.

Rubi’s side wants Lopez to make a decision and if he decides to leave, they are hopeful he can influence Slaviša Jokanović’s side to improve their offer to sign him.
