Club América are aiming to make Fulham star Raúl Jiménez their ‘blockbuster signing’, after lining their pockets with funds from the Club World Cup.
That’s according to Marca, who cover the planned move for the Fulham striker today. They report that América are ‘licking their lips’ at the prospect of getting Jiménez back.
The return of their ‘prodigal son’ is one that has been mooted for years. Jiménez has often played up the idea too, admitting he wants to go back to his former club before the end of his career on numerous occasions.
Fox One journalist Rubén Rodríguez has now explained that there’s a plan to make that happen. According to him, Club América duo Santiago Baños and Emilio Azcárraga are ‘lining their pockets’ thanks to the World Cup. And once that is done, they plan to move to sign Jiménez.
He would be available on a free transfer at that point, with his Fulham contract due to expire. There may even be sales at the Mexican club to help further fund the move.
But Jiménez has made it clear he’ll also reduce his salary just to play for his old club again. It’s a dream he wants to fulfil before his career comes to an end.
Thus, Club América are working to build the required funds and make him a blockbuster signing following the World Cup.
Raúl Jiménez turns 35-years-of-age in May and his time with Fulham, and in the Premier League, may be coming to an end. The forward first moved to England in 2018 with Wolverhampton Wanderers, after a mixed time in Portugal with Benfica.
He last played in Mexico in 2014.
