Fulham defender Jorge Cuenca is emerging as a much more serious Benfica target. Portuguese reports now suggest the two clubs are edging closer to finding common ground on a deal.
The Spanish centre-back was already linked with Benfica last week, largely because of Marco Silva’s expected arrival in Lisbon. However, fresh reporting from A Bola indicates the situation has moved beyond simple admiration.
According to the newspaper, Benfica view Cuenca as one of their priority defensive targets this summer. Negotiations could be completed for a fee slightly above €10m (£8.5m).
Another report from journalist Pablo Oliveira adds that the clubs are only separated by a few million euros in their valuation of the player.
