Tottenham Hotspur lallowed Bryan Gil join Girona on a loan deal in the summer window.
The 23-year-old has enjoyed regular game time with the La Liga side, after struggling for minutes under Ange Postecoglou last season.
On Sunday, the Tottenham owned player received a late call-up from Spain manager Luis de la Fuente for this international break. He and CA Osasuna’s Bryan Zaragoza replaced Barcelona’s Ferran Torres and Real Madrid’s Dani Carvajal due to injury.
The Euro 2024 winners will face Denmark and Serbia in the UEFA Nations League. Less than 24 hours later, Gil has been forced to withdraw from the squad. This is confirmed by the RFEF [Spanish football association], relayed by Onda Cero.
According to Onda Cero, the medical staff of Spain and Girona have agreed the 23-year-old will not train with the national team. The nature of the injury that prevents him from representing his country isn’t specified.
The Tottenham man was presented an opportunity to the Spain squad for the first time in three years. He will certainly be frustrated to miss out on the upcoming two games with La Roja.
