Even though the big noise from the Portuguese media about Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Ruben Amorim has quietened, we today get to see more interesting claims about the Sporting manager.
That’s in a story coming from newspaper Record, where it’s said the Lions’ president Frederico Varandas has ‘frozen’ summer signings for now.
All the transfers Sporting had been working on were supposed to be for Amorim. Now given the uncertainty about his future, the club shall wait and see what to do.
Record says the manager knows he’s liked by Tottenham, being part of a ‘restricted list of candidates’ to take charge of the club.
For now, he’s said to be focused on finishing the season well with Sporting. And at the end of the season, he’ll sit with his agent and evaluate the offers that arrive.
The newspaper mentions Tottenham and Chelsea as the main candidates to land Amorim, but with so many reports saying the Blues are close to signing Mauricio Pochettino, it sounds clear that Spurs would have a clearer path to sign the Portuguese coach.
The North London side may just have to worry about PSG as well, even though the French side’s chase isn’t thought to be as strong as that from English clubs.
