On March 3rd, Record in Portugal reported Benfica are keen on signing Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Nélson Semedo in the summer window.
The right-back spent four years with the Eagles between 2012 and 2016. His contract at Wolves will expire at the end of this season and Benfica are aiming to bring him back to the club.
Semedo is on the front page of today’s edition of Record, with ‘Nelson advances’ written in bold.
Within the report, it’s claimed Benfica ‘will move towards’ the signing of the Wolves player and are ‘betting everything’ for him to return to the club.
Benfica president Rui Costa and other leaders consider the Portugal international as the priority target for next season.
The Primeira Liga club are aiming to close the 31-year-old’s transfer in the next window. Due to his contract situation, Benfica feel it’ll be easy to facilitate negotiations.
Recent claims stated Bruno Lage’s side plan to make an offer for Genk right-back Zakaria El Ouahdi. Record have dismissed this as Benfica are focusing on Semedo’s return and believe ‘they can be successful in this operation.’
Semedo, who played under Lage at Wolves, had earlier talked about his desire to return to Benfica. He can secure a move back to his former club in the summer, barring any last-minute surprises.
