There’s a claim in the Turkish media that Newcastle United are showing interest in Gençlerbirligi attacking midfielder Baran Yıldız.

It’s been common for Premier League sides to scout young talent in Turkey and there’s a possibility the 18-year-old could join the English club.

Ankara media outlet Zafer Gazetesi say Newcastle United are looking to reach an agreement to sign Yıldız, and it’s stated they are in transfer talks with Gençlerbirligi.

It’s claimed the Magpies are looking to seal a deal in the coming days, but there are no reports of the transfer fee or the length of contract being offered to the youngster.

Yıldız has yet to make his senior debut for the Ankara club and is currently involved with their U19s team. In total he’s played 27 games across all Gençlerbirligi’s age groups, scoring seven goals.

Aston Villa have also been looking to the Turkish market for young talent following claims they were interested in 18-year-old defender Yasin Özcan.

There have been reports the Premier League side are close to getting a deal done for the Kasımpaşa player, who has impressed since he broke into the first team this season.

There’s no indication of how Baran Yıldız would go about getting a work permit. Perhaps a purchase and then loan back would be the obvious way around that.
