Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin is one of the possibilities being considered to take over the Swedish national team. That’s according to Sweden’s SVT, who say the Aberdeen boss was also under consideration the last time the country was in recruitment mode.
Jon Dahl Tomasson got the nod then, but he was sacked on Tuesday. Sweden have had a disastrous World Cup qualifying campaign, but are guaranteed a play-off because of their Nations League success.
Soon after the announcement that the Danish manager had been fired, multiple options were named. Graham Potter, who last worked at West Ham United, quickly spoke to the Swedish media and put himself forward.
Potter explained he’s currently living in the country, open to opportunities, and loves Swedish football. He couldn’t have sounded more eager had he started singing ABBA.
SVT report Aberdeen’s Thelin has long been of interest to those in charge of Swedish football.
Aberdeen are currently bottom of the Scottish Premiership with four points from seven matches. That’s not exactly a great advertisement for the manager, but it may make the 47-year-old easier to get.
Interestingly, the article makes clear the information was provided to SVT Nyheter Jönköping. Jimmy Thelin is from Jönköping, so it doesn’t take a great leap to assume it’s come from someone in the Aberdeen manager’s camp.
