Celtic are in Serbia this evening to face Red Star Belgrade in the Europa League. Brendan Rodgers will be hoping his side can start the competition well.
As ever, Celtic will be followed by a large group of supporters, and it would appear they faced some serious issues on Tuesday evening. Often when clubs from the UK travel for European matches and there’s issues, the country’s local media tends to side with their own fans.
That hasn’t happened this times, and the Serbian media are blaming local ‘hooligans’ for an attack on Celtic fans last night.
Telegraf, one of the major media outlets in the country, reports a ‘large group of hooligans’ attacked Celtic fans sitting outside cafes on Tuesday evening. According to their information, a 34-year-old fan from Scotland was taken to hospital following the attack.
Those who attacked the group of fans wearing Celtic shirts had dispersed by the time police arrived to deal with the situation. Tighter security will surely be expected today.
