Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United wasn’t much of a surprise but it appears to have come as a shock to the man himself.
After the loss to West Ham, the Dutchman was shown the door. It wasn’t really the performance against the Hammers which wrote his exit story, but the result proved to be the final straw.
With Ruben Amorim now likely to be the next man who comes through the door at Old Trafford, thoughts have turned away from Ten Hag.
Dutch pundit Hans Kraay Jr, who played alongside Ten Hag at De Graafschap, has given his insights and information on what’s happening with the manager now.
Kraay Jr spoke to Humberto Tan’s talk show yesterday, as relayed by SoccerNews:
“I understand that he is getting €17m and then people say: ‘he will go somersaulting through Manchester’. No, he is completely, completely devastated, he is completely ruined.”
Kraay Jr insisted Ten Hag isn’t cushioned by his huge Manchester United pay-off.
“At the moment you don’t think about money. That will come later. I also don’t have the impression that I have to call him tomorrow to ask – can you still make ends meet, can you still get the groceries? Not that, but now he’s in trouble.”
After his Manchester United experience, Ten Hag now has to decide whether to take a prolonged break from the game or try to return to a club as soon as possible.
He’s likely to get offers, and will surely be careful about picking the right step for the next stage of his career.
