Tottenham Hotspur and Roberto De Zerbi are continuing to dream of a deal for Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo, despite it appearing difficult to get over the line.

Voetbal International report that Tottenham’s interest is ‘now becoming serious’. They intend to step up their efforts to sign the 27-year-old.

Tottenham are now serious about transfer

According to Voetbal International’s information, Tottenham view Gakpo as the ‘missing link’ for their side, believing that he is needed to help them ‘rejoin England’s elite’.

Multiple sources have confirmed to the newspaper that Tottenham are keen on the Liverpool forward this summer. VI are absolutely certain this is a situation in motion.

Roberto De Zerbi’s ‘Bomba’ for Tottenham

Roberto de Zerbi is energetically building a new squad this summer, having already signed Jan Paul van Hecke, Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes in big-money moves. Andrew Robertson and Marcos Senesi have also joined on free transfers.

Spurs are determined to avoid a repeat of last year’s relegation battle. De Zerbi is now pressing on with his plans to push them further away from any such repeat. And he seemingly believes the Liverpool forward as a key addition to a new look forward line.

The manager recently spoke of another Tottenham transfer ‘bomba’ being on the way. Cody Gakpo has agood chance of being that man.

Liverpool reluctance?

Reports throughout this summer have linked Tottenham with a move for the Liverpool forward at some point. The first of those stated that Spurs had already made plans behind the scenes for the potential transfer.

Sport Witness then covered a report yesterday explaining that Tottenham were preparing a €60m+ move. That report insisted that Cody Gakpo is keen on the move to London.

The question is whether Liverpool want to sell. Gakpo remained a key player under Arne Slot last season and will presumably feature highly in Andoni Iraola’s plans as well.

Indeed, he is the senior left-winger in the squad at his moment in time, ahead of summer signing Víctor Muñoz and Rio Ngumoha.

After already losing Mohamed Salah, they would presumably be reluctant to sell Gakpo as well, unless Tottenham offer money they simply can’t refuse.

Second view from the Netherlands

Rik Elfrink is a senior writer for Eindhovens Dagblad. Cody Gakpo was born in Eindhoven and Liverpool bought him from PSV in 2023.

PSV are due 5% of the profit from a Liverpool exit. Elfrink states the player was keen on a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur earlier this summer.

As it stands, the Reds haven’t yet opened up.
