Watford finished 16th during 2025/26 Championship season, finishing 16 points sixth placed Hull City.
The Hornets started the season with Paulo Pezzolano as manager, and Javi Gracia replaced him in October.
In February, the Spaniard stepped down from his role and Watford appointed Edward Still as his successor.
The English club won only three of the 15 league matches and dropped from 11th to 16th under Still’s orders. Earlier this month, they parted ways with the former Anderlecht boss, who could soon return to work in Belgium.
On May 8th, Sport Witness covered claims from Belgium that the 35-year-old is the main target for RAAL La Louvière.
Watford keen on Danish coach
The Championship side have now turned their attention towards Niels Frederiksen. That’s according to Tipsbladet, who cover the latest on Watford’s interest in the 55-year-old.
He’s now in charge of Lech Poznań, a club he joined in July 2024, and his contract expires in June.
Meczyki report Lech Poznań want to offer him an extension while Watford want to bring him to England. Journalist Tomasz Włodarczyk says the Dane has to make a decision.
“This isn’t a false move by Frederiksen. The contract with Lech suits him, but he also has other options, inquiries, and offers on the table,” he said.
“According to my knowledge, one of the leads lead to England, to the Championship. That club is Watford, which is supposed to have something for Niels Frederiksen.”
“The question arises: What will he choose in the end? An agreement with Lech, or at this stage, without any clauses or extensions, a decision to go elsewhere. The Championship could be tempting.”
Denmark’s Tipsbladet back up the Polish claims and then provide their own take on this case.
They report Watford have made an offer to Frederiksen and are in talks for him to become their latest manager.
Lech Poznań want to retain him but if he decides to join Watford, they can do nothing but watch him leave as his contract expires in June.

Niels Frederiksen managed in Denmark before moving to Poland in 2024. He’s helped Lech Poznań win the title this and last season and he also won the title with Brøndby during the 2020/21 season.
